Early Season Traveler FAQ
You can usually expect Killington to be the first ski resort in Vermont to open and the last to close each year. In 2015 Killington even beat out Arapahoe Basin in Colorado to become the first North American ski resort to open.
The following resorts are expected to be open for Thanksgiving 2021 depending on weather and snowmaking conditions: Bromley, Jay Peak, Killington, Mount Snow, Okemo, Smuggler’s Notch, Stowe, Sugarbush.
Virtually all of the large resorts that open early will offer discounted lift ticket rates for the early season. Notably, Jay Peak does not offer early season discounts on tickets. However, they also don’t increase prices for Holidays, so all is fair. Remember that Thanksgiving is usually considered to be a holiday period at the large resorts and lift ticket prices will generally increase during this time. Jay peak usually tries to open for Thanksgiving so this resort is fair game for travel planners during the early season.
The earliest that Killington has ever opened is October 1st and they have done this on 4 occasions: 1985, 1992, 1993, 1997. The latest that Killington has ever opened was November 23rd in 2006.
